Constant Temp vs Ventilated Chick Truck — Which One Do You Need?
The first question most people ask when buying a chick truck: ventilated or constant temperature? Here's the short version.
Ventilated trucks pull air through front ducts and side vents, with optional roof fans. They cost less, weigh less, and are simpler to maintain. If your routes are mostly within your province and the weather is moderate, a ventilated model probably does the job fine.
Constant temperature trucks seal the cabin and use an independent AC system plus a fuel heater to hold 22-26°C no matter what. They're more expensive upfront, but if you're shipping long distances, crossing climate zones, doing export, or handling premium chicks, the survival rate difference pays for itself fast.
Specifications
- Ventilated models: 4.2m, 6.8m, 7.8m, 9.6m
- Constant temp models: 7.6m, 9.6m
- Ventilated loading: Two-tier rack shelves
- Constant temp loading: Transfer carts + hydraulic tail lift
- Ventilated cooling: Natural airflow, optional roof fans
- Constant temp cooling: Independent AC (50-70kW) + fuel heater (15-35kW)
- Both use: FRP insulated bodies
- Constant temp range: -35°C to +40°C
Key Features
- Ventilated: lower sticker price, less to go wrong, lighter on the scales
- Constant temp: chicks arrive in better shape, works in any weather, data for proof
- Ventilated: good for mild climates, shorter runs, cost-sensitive operations
- Constant temp: essential for export, extreme heat or cold, long-distance
- Ventilated: fixed rack shelves, more payload for the same GVW
- Constant temp: carts roll in and out fast, less handling = less stress
Applications
Ventilated: domestic, moderate climate, short-medium routes. Constant temp: export, extreme weather, premium chicks, long-haul.
