Constant Temp Chick Truck Maintenance — What You Actually Need to Do
Constant temp chick trucks have more systems than ventilated ones, so maintenance matters more. But it's not complicated — just regular.
The filter needs cleaning after every trip. Chicks produce a surprising amount of down feathers, and they accumulate fast. The ECU tells you when differential pressure hits 250Pa, but checking it between loads is a good habit.
If you're not using the AC or heater regularly, run them for 15-20 minutes twice a month. This keeps the seals from drying out. Belts should be checked weekly during the first month, then weekly after that. Use the right diesel grade for the season, and when you shut down the heater, wait for the cool-down cycle to finish before cutting the master power.
Specifications
- Filter: Clean after every trip (watch for DP >250Pa)
- AC/heater: Run 2-3 times per month when not in regular use
- Belts: Check weekly (10mm deflection per meter on center span)
- Diesel: Use correct winter grade for your climate
- Dryer: Replace refrigerant dryer annually
- Compressor oil: Change every 2 years
Key Features
- Clean the filter every trip — takes minutes, prevents airflow problems
- Run the AC in winter and heater in summer occasionally
- Check belts weekly; loose belts make noise and reduce cooling
- Use the right diesel for winter — gelled fuel = no heat
- Let the heater cool down before killing the power
- Annual dryer change keeps moisture out of the refrigerant system
- Two-year oil change protects the compressor
- Spare filters and belts come with the truck
